Faced with a 226kg unit situated 11m above the lift area the customer contacted GGR Group for a suitable lifting solution. Renowned for our compact cranes we could offer a selection of machines for this glazing challenge, ideal for lifting in confined areas. GGR performed a lift plan, site survey and risk assessment, selecting the <a href="https://www.ggrgroup.com/products/mini-cranes/unic-cube-crane/">Cube Crane</a> for this lifting task. This mini spider crane is designed to simplify the most challenging lifts with its compact design, multi-position outriggers and three-section derricking boom. Facing restricted access and a confined lifting area GGR’s specialist compact lifting solutions were essential for this challenging project. <img class=" wp-image-39388 alignleft" src="https://www.ggrgroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/IMG-20241101-WA0006-copy-257x342.jpg" alt="The UNIC Cube Crane installing glazing for the City of London Academy." width="400" height="532" />Located next to a busy main road the Cube Crane was delivered within the confines of the lane and pavement closure. With the tightest access point measuring 1700mm, the crane was easily tracked through the space, only measuring 1500mm wide when compact. GGR’s experienced operator setup the crane within the confined entry to the property beside the staircase leading down to the doorway. Multi-position outriggers ensured safe and easy positioning without compromising on strength. The glazing unit for replacement was on the 2nd floor, 11m above the lift area. However, this was no challenge for the Cube Crane which comes with a 21.17m maximum lifting height, enabling access to some of the toughest lifting problems. Equipped with a radio remote control with bi-axis joysticks and feedback display the operator was provided with enhanced control of each minute movement of the crane. With a 6.3m distance between the crane and glazing this project also required a lifting solution with sufficient reach. Equipped with a knuckle boom able to be set at 85°, 90° and 95° angles which can also extend to up to 13.99m, this machine was essential for replacing the oversized 226kg unit.
